Helping people to see Jesus!
Job has just finished listening to God fire question after question at him. And we should notice that Job does not answer a single one of them. How could he? The questions that God asked of Job were not meant to be answered. The questions that God asked of Job were meant to reveal the truth of how great God is compared to Job.
In asking these questions of Job, God is saying that He knows the answers and is the answer to all these questions. These questions reveal God to Job. These questions also reveal to Job who he is, especially in relation to God. Because of these questions God is revealed more fully to Job. Job’s response to this revelation is to ‘abhor’ himself, to repent, and to figuratively sit in dust and ashes.
In the very first verse of the book of Job, He is described as a man that is ‘blameless and upright’. God also describes Job using the same words. There was no one like Job on the whole earth. And yet when things got tough his focus changed from God to himself. He was asking the question: Why is this happening to me?
The book of Job was written to teach us a very important truth that we must learn if we want to have the kind of Christian life, ministry, or church that God intended. And that truth is: It’s not all about you! It has never been about you! It will never be about you! It’s about God! It’s about Jesus! And the sooner that we learn that and say as Job did, “I had heard of you but now I see you”, the better our life will be. The great lesson of Job is not patience, but faith. It was Job’s faith that caused him to be used in this life illustration for all of us. It was Job’s faith that was tested in this trial. It was Job’s faith that God questioned. It was Job’s faith that became stronger because of this testing.
God doesn’t want us to know about Him, He wants us to know Him. God wants us to know Jesus, like we would know a brother or a close friend. It is not enough to have heard about Jesus, we must see Him. And when we do, it will also help us to see ourselves for who we really are.
Whether you are building a life, marriage, family, ministry, or church, your primary responsibility is to help people to see Jesus. No other responsibility, role, job description, or instruction comes close to the importance of helping people to see Jesus. And it doesn’t matter what your role is, helping people to see Jesus is your responsibility. Even if no one sees you or knows what you do in that ministry or church, your role is to help people to see Jesus. Jesus, help me to see you today and help me to help others see you today. Jesus, it’s not all about me, it’s all about You.
