There is always a purpose in God’s miracles that is much deeper and more complex than just to bless your life.

Who does God do miracles for?
God has just done this radical miracle of stopping the flooding Jordan River so that the nation of Israel could cross over into the Promised Land. He also reminds them that forty years ago He did a similar miracle at the Red Sea so that they could escape Egypt and the army of the Pharaoh. And then God explains why He did these two great miracles.
It is interesting to note that it wasn’t because there was anything special about the people of Israel. It wasn’t because He owed it to the Hebrews. It wasn’t because of anything pertaining to the children of Israel. It was because of what God wanted to accomplish.
God did these great miracles because He wanted the rest of the world to witness His great power. God chose the nation of Israel, not because there was anything special about them, but because He wanted to use a group of people to reveal to the rest of the world what an awesome God that He is. God could have used any group of people to do the same thing.
He also did these great miracles so that this group of people, the Israelites, would fear Him. God wanted them to have a deep reverential respect for Him and so He gave them a powerful witness of who He was so that they would. Unfortunately, the Israelites thought these miracles had something to do with them and it became a source of pride. It had always been about God and it will always be about God, but at some point they forgot that.
God is still performing miracles. Every day God is causing some miraculous thing to take place in the world and in the lives of His children. But we have got to avoid the temptation to assume that it has something to do with us. God is still in the business of revealing Himself to all the nations and causing His people to fear Him.
We benefit from the miracles of God, especially when we are in the business of revealing God to others and when we do have that deep reverential respect for God, but He is still not doing those miraculous things for us. There is always a purpose much deeper and more complex than just to bless your life.
The Bible teaches that God is searching the whole earth looking for people who fear Him so that He can pour out His power and might in miraculous ways within their lives. It is part of His plan to bring the whole world into a saving relationship with His son Jesus Christ. The more we fear God, the more we will see His great power working in our lives. Jesus, help us to live powerful, miraculous lives.
