Kingdom Character – Poor in Spirit! Matthew 5:1-3

Kingdom Character – Poor in Spirit! Matthew 5:1-3

Pastor Rick Lancaster continues a series in the gospel of Matthew: The Savior-King and His Kingdom. The Sermon on the Mount has been one of the most influential writings in human history. It opens with the Beatitudes – proverb-like statements that are rich with spiritual teaching. Rick starts with the first one – ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit.’ Matthew’s gospel serves as a bridge between the Old and New Testaments. Matthew seeks to prove to the Jews that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah. For those of us who are not Jews, Matthew helps us to see our Savior-King more clearly and through his gospel learn to live well in Christ’s kingdom today.
